Here we go, the countdown to the start of the school year has begun! Since we’re now just a few steps away from the start of the school year, it’s a good time to make sure your child has everything they need to start this new year. Below, we’ve put together all our essentials for a well-prepared back-to-school season.

1) Supplies

The first thing on our mind during back-to-school season is usually the list of school supplies to get. We suggest you go through this list of school supplies to make sure your child has everything they need. Focus on the essentials: pencils, erasers, binders, calculator, pencil case and any exercise books that are required. For more random items or some that are harder to find, talk to your child’s teacher for more information.

2) Schedule

Having a concrete plan of your child’s day will help them feel confident going back to class. Work with your child to establish a morning routine for their first day so they know exactly what to expect. This will greatly reduce their stress and provide a foundation for their daily routine. Besides a morning routine, don’t forget to keep a family calendar with a schedule of activities and important dates.

3) Living Habits

Since back-to-school is a busy time of year, maintaining healthy habits will help to maintain stability and to control stress. We recommend that your child gets enough sleep and gets up at the same time daily as if they were going to school. Furthermore, try choosing nutritious meals and healthy snacks to fill their lunchboxes.

4) Environment

Although your child gets most of their education at school, a big part of their learning also takes place at home. That’s why it’s important to include a study area in your house. Designate a space for homework time and put it together with your child. Having a study space that inspires them can even give your child motivation to do their homework and revision.

5) Subjects

Finally, to prepare for back-to-school, it’s also a good idea to review the previous school year’s material. Doing this review will not only refresh your child’s memory, but also help them identify their weaknesses before learning new concepts. If they still have last year’s class notes, review them with your child and quiz them to test their knowledge. There are also workbooks available that can help prepare your child for the grade level they’re about to start.
